Oh, how it warms my heart to see the boys spooning on the bed… they are so damn cute!!

Hello world!

This is my last day of work before I depart for a lovely, much anticipated FOUR-DAY WEEKEND!

Yep, you heard me right… I’m taking paid holidays. It’s very exciting. We’re staying in what appears to be a charming motel, apparently quite close to my second cousin’s cabin.

First stop: The Horse Thief pub. Looks like a kickin’ good place!

 It’s been a crazy few days in Johannaland – this weekend, after seeing my very fluffy cat Bug  suffering in the incredible heat, I decided it would be a good idea to get him “buzzed.” Little did I expect how traumatic it would be – both for him, and me!
Leaving the apartment for only the second time in his short life (and the first time, he got his balls cut off, so I can see where he wouldn’t look forward to it…) was bad enough; the grooming parlour full of barking dogs didn’t help; not having any fur – after a lifetime of it – was weird and traumatic; but the worst part was that his buddy Zac, my other cat, didn’t recognize him when he got home (all sad and confused), and hissed every time he came near. And usually they’re the best of friends!!!
It was very difficult for me to see, and I felt like the meanest owner in the entire world… yes, some tears were shed, I’m afraid.
However, three days on, the Bug seems to be getting used to his new, sleek look, and perhaps even enjoying the feel of wind on his skin…

I don’t think we’ll be doing this again next summer…           

but it might just work out OK this time.

Brazil’s 3-0 victory over Ghana has assured me top spot in the office World Cup pool… yay!
Sadly, my sentimental pick Japan was eliminated in the early stages of the tournament, putting an end to Hidetoshi Nakata’s hopes

Looking forward to the next England game when they take on host Germany — should be a great match.

I sometimes wonder about the wisdom of posting my most *intimate* thoughts and feelings online… but it’s an irresitible tempation. It’s like the drunken call home from a foreign country — I have SO MUCH to say! And I am convinced EVERYONE wants to hear about it!

Today (this month) my post begins with an ode to sweet Paul, who is married to my best friend Derek. If I may say so: Paul is the most loving, caring guy ever… he cooks like a chef in the best restaurant you’ve ever been to… he has an incredible sense of style… and he’s gorgeous to boot! Oh, and he makes Derek ridiculously happy. So, for all those reasons and more, we love him!

And now, for something completely different! Musings on the passage of time…
I am always “stunned” at how quickly time passes, but no more so than right now — it’s [our] birthday AGAIN next week and it has, once again, crept right up on me! How can it possibly be June? Of 2006? For Pete’s sake!!!

Some people fret about birthdays, but I enjoy them — I like getting older (good thing — there’s no cure), because the older I get, the *smarter* I get — or at least I’m figuring more stuff out. Or am I?

“The more I learn, the more I realize how much there is to know…”

It may be an inaccurate quote, but it kinda sums up my thinking.

Crap, i can’t figure out how to insert hyperlinks into this @#(*$& blog… it’ll have to wait until later, since I’m off to bed.

It has been a good while since I posted something to this blog, but I am determined I will not be one of those people who starts a blog and then cavalierly abandons it, so here goes. Today is a good day – here are the things I am happy about:

• The new Feist remixes album open season that I have been playing non-stop – so good! I especially love the remix of Mushaboom with K-os
• My friends Paul and Etienne arrive from the UK for a much anticipated visit in less than two weeks!
• I have glam new furniture
• My kitties – cuter every day, it’s true!!!
• Derek’s play opens soon, and I can’t wait to see him on stage again – he’s so talented

I basically started this blog as an exercise in applying things I am learning at my fancy new job – above is an attempt to insert a “looplet” – let’s see how it goes!

So here is the part (a bit confusing) where I try to upload a picture of myself to my blog. Here goes.
